      SASS Postgraduate Degree
General Information
Candidates can apply to conduct research on a specific area of interest at MA or PhD level. They should select research topics which reflect the faculty’s research strengths. Candidates will work under the guidance of a trained supervisor or supervisors to produce a thesis which is presented for examination.

 §  Master of Arts (100% research)
The Master of Arts (MA) with 100% research is available by 100% thesis. Candidates undertaking this degree are expected to submit a thesis of 30,000 to 40,000 words. The period of candidature is two years full-time or four years part-time. Minimum candidature for all research students is one year full-time or two years part-time. Research students, whether full-time or part-time, must be able to attend the university regularly. Student enrolling for a 100% research MA degree can start their candidature at any time of the year. 
Entry Requirements:
·  Bachelors degree requiring at least four years of full-time study, and which normally includes a research 
   component in the fourth year, leading to an honours degree class I (first-class honours) or class IIA (upper second 
   class honours) level; or 
·  A coursework masters degree with a significant research component graded at Distinction or above, and an
   overall result of IIA or above or  
·  A qualification considered equivalent to one of the above
·  And to meet the university’s English language requirements.
 
       §  Doctor of Philosophy (PhD by thesis - 100% research)
 
            The degree is a 100% research program, with a thesis requirement of a maximum of 100,000 words. The duration of  
             the course: the normal length of candidature is considered to be 3 years full-time or 6 years part-time.
            
            Entry Requirements:
·  Bachelors degree requiring at least four years of full-time study, and which normally includes a research component  
   in the fourth year, leading to an honours degree class I (first-class honours) or class IIA (upper second-class
   honours) level; or 
·  A course leading to a masters preliminary qualification at a level rated by the Monash Research Graduate School
   (MRGS) as equivalent to an honours class I or IIA degree; or 
·  A research masters degree; or
·  A Masters degree that entailed work, normally including a significant research component, at least equivalent to an 
   honours degree.     
·  And to meet the university’s English language requirements.
 
§  Master of Arts (Communications and Cultural Studies) - no intake in 2009 
          The Master of Arts (Communication and Cultural Studies) consists of 2 different modes; the candidate can either 
          undertake all units by coursework or 24 points research dissertation (for those who achieved Distinction or 
          High Distinction for the first 4 units only). The duration of this degree is 3 semesters for full-time; and 6 
          semesters for part-time studies. Please refer to Download brochure here for more details.
      
           Entry Requirements:
·  A bachelors degree with at least a credit average in the final year     
·  A bachelor's pass degree with demonstrable professional experience (a minimum of 2 years) at management level in 
   a  relevant area.  
·  Completion of a Graduate Diploma with credit (or above) average. Those with an Honours degree or a graduate 
   diploma in a relevant area can apply for an advanced entry point.
·  And to meet the university’s English language requirements.
