About 10% of the population of the Philippines (at least 10 million Filipinos) are believed to work and reside outside of the country. They are popularly known as OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers).

Missing Balili (Yeoh Seng Guan, 2015, 29 Mins) follows the story of a young Filipina who originally trained to be a nurse. Before Malaysia, she had worked in the United Arab Emirates and South Korea. It tells us of the initial reason for wanting to go abroad and the powerful attraction for remaining abroad. It follows some of their activities during her “off days”, shows the bonds built around other Filipinos.

Missing Balili tells the paradoxes of living abroad and of missing home at the same time.
