On the 27th of June 2017, fourteen travellers from the School of Arts and Social Sciences, Monash University Malaysia, set forth on their annual study trip to Sabah, Malaysia. This six-day study trip commemorates the 13th installment of the ‘In Search Of’ (ISO) series. In collaboration with PACOS Trust, the students spent time learned about life in the cosmopolitan city of Kota Kinabalu, local townships of Penampang, Ranau and Kundasang, and the indigenous communities of Kampung Kipuovo and Kampung Kiau.

The student travellers, through the formal sessions and informal exploration of the Western region of the state, were exposed to issues of land rights, undocumented immigration, river management systems, the role of native courts, corporatisation of agriculture, environmental concerns, impact of tourism, inter-religious and inter-ethnic harmony, revitalisation of indigenous tradition, and more. They experienced a different Malaysia.
